a short video of tweed being woven in the loom shed
I am 'A Harris Tweed Weaver’ living and working on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the only place in the world that Harris Tweed can be produced.
As well as weaving double width tweed for the island mills, I have recently assembled a traditional Hattersley single width loom to design and produce my own tweeds.
Yarn is sourced locally from the Shawbost Mill, one of the three mills on the island. After weaving, the tweed is returned to the mill to be finished and to be inspected and stamped by the Harris Tweed Authority.
At the start of each tweed a selection of colours is run through the warp in varying lengths of 10 to 25 centimetres, ideal for small projects and crafting.
Tweed can be purchased in any length and will be posted out as soon as possible after receiving an order.
Pictures of new and current tweeds are posted both to my Facebook page 'A Harris Tweed Weaver’ and my Instagram page ‘Harris Tweed Weaver”.
I hope that you will take a few minutes to look at my site and should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
